This is a quick update to tell you about my current work on ‘Outside the Box: Open Air Performance as Pandemic Response’, an AHRC Covid-19 rapid response grant project, led by PI Dr Evelyn O’Malley, and working with Tim Coles from the Business School and Exeter Culture. We are looking at ways in which open air performance might draw on the creativity of artists who have both a long history of experimenting with outdoor spaces, or who have done so during the lockdown. It is our hope that this could pick up and develop people’s engagement with their environment, and we are interested in some of the transformative ways in which ideas of interior and exterior, open air and sealed rooms are shifting in light of pandemic, climate threats, digital exchanges and other unfolding circumstances.
